Wymondham Churches Together


Through Wymondham Churches Together, the former Council of Churches, the Christian churches in Wymondham work together in several events during the year. These include the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, where there is an exchange of pulpits and processions through the town at Easter and Pentecost. Other co-operative efforts include Christian Aid Week and the ministers' fraternal.

Wymondham Abbey Church
The Abbey Church of St. Mary and St. Thomas of Canterbury is one of Norfolk's largest and most beautiful parish churches, dating from 1107. The Abbey is open for visitors and private prayer during the daytime, six days a week. The shop inside the Abbey sells religious books, local booklets, cards and souvenirs.

Services Overview
Morning Eucharist and evening prayer are held daily and there is also a pram service every Tuesday morning. On Sundays there is Holy Communion at 8.00am (Book of Common Prayer) and a Family Eucharist at 10am which welcomes people of all ages and has a play area for small children. There is an Evensong service at 6.30pm every week, with Choral Evensong on the first Sunday of the month and Solemn Evensong with Benediction on the third Sunday.

Groups and Activities
A wide range of activities and groups flourish within the Abbey community, including a Youth Group, Mothers' Union, Mens' group, Bible Fellowship, Sunday School and Friends of Wymondham Abbey, amongst others. Wymondham Roman Catholic Church

Although the Roman Catholic parish church is situated in Wymondham, the parish extends from Hethersett in the east to Watton in the west. The site, opposite the Bridewell, houses a new parish hall as well at the church and the priest's house. The church, with a special side chapel, is the national memorial to all who died in the Japanese prison camps of 1939-45. The church is open daily from 5am until dusk. The parish priest and his team of Ministers of the Eucharist are pleased to visit the sick and give Holy Communion when invited to do so. We extend a warm welcome to all who would like to join us for worship or to discover more about the rich heritage of the Catholic Faith. Catholic schools taking children from five years to 6th form level are available in Norwich and a school bus runs from the town in term time.Services overview Sunday Masses are at 10am (a family Mass) and 5.30pm. On Holy days, Masses are at 10.30am and 7.30pm. Wymondham Methodist Church

Situated in Town Green, near the war memorial, the church is part of the Wymondham, Attleborough and Watton Circuit.
It is nearly 135 years old, and has a sound reinforcement loop and amplification system, new halls and link facilities including a catering kitchen and a frontage with access for disabled people. The new halls are available for hire by outside organisations (see contacts, below.) The Church is pleased to help families and individuals when a wedding, christening (or baptism) or a funeral service is needed.

Services Overview
Sunday worship is at 10.30am and 6.30pm every fourth Sunday in the month. A crèche is provided for morning worshippers and there is also a Junior Church. Leading worship is shared between ministers and fully trained local preachers.

Groups and Activities
Mid-week activities include Bible Study, House Fellowships, Men's Group, Women's Fellowship, In-Betweens Group, Methodist Snooker Club, Mothers and Toddlers, Young Peoples' Groups and a weekly Charity Shop (Fridays, 8am-12 noon). Details of these activities and other matters can be obtained from the Minister. The Church believes in serving the community and has a joint venture with Wymondham Day Care Centre supported by Norfolk Social Services in providing a Day Centre offering caring support to the needy and elderly in Wymondham and the surrounding communities. Most of the team are volunteers and the supervisor, Mrs Sally Colk (see contacts, below) welcomes new workers. There is a fully equipped ambulance to transport members.

Wymondham Baptist Church

Located at the very heart of the historic market town of Wymondham, Norfolk, Wymondham Baptist Church has been worshipping and serving the local community and wider world for over 200 years! Today Wymondham Baptist Church is a humble, growing, lively, modern and forward-thinking community of Christians. The congregation is made up of a diverse group of ages, backgrounds, styles and personalities who are committed to one another and most importantly, seeking to meet the spiritual and practical needs of Wymondham and the surrounding area.

Services Overview
The Sunday service is held each week at Queen Street, in Wymondham at 10.30am and are best described as informal, modern and most importantly open to God and visitors! Everyone is encrouaged to engage and contribute where they feel comfortable and feel led to do so, and there is a real family atmosphere. Wymondham Baptist Church has a full children's programme catering for all ages from 0 - 16 years, with a crèche and childrens groups during the service.

Groups and Activities
A comprehensive range of activities is provided for children and young people both on Sundays and throughout the week. On Mondays the 'Little Acorns' group meets for parents and toddlers; many adults take the opportunity to meet weekly in home groups; 'Coffee Pot' on Friday mornings provides particular opportunities for friendship over a cup of coffee.

The Fairland United Reformed Church

Fairland Church Centre, Fairland Green, Wymondham
Now known as the Fairland Church Centre, the United Reformed Church in Wymondham stands opposite the Fairland at the main entrance to the town from the A11. The Fairland Church is committed to seek closer working relationships with other Wymondham churches and with the wider community, to seek to serve the town and share the good news of God's love for the human race and creation in Jesus Christ.

Services Overview
Services are held on Sundays at 10.30 am, and include Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month. At 10.00am on the first Wednesday of each month there is a short and informal service. There are regular opportunities for discussion and exploring faith in small groups and we are encouraged to pray for one another, the life of Wymondham and the other churches through the prayer diary we publish each week.

Groups and Activities
The church has regular social activities including community lunches, church lunches, coffee mornings and evenings, and various fund raising events. The church participates fully in the ecumenical life of the town and offers a warm welcome to newcomers and visitors at the services and activities.

City Church Wymondham (formerly Wymondham Community Church)
The Congregation is relational - everyone is valued - and charismatic in style with small groups (cells) that meet in homes weekly as well as in Congregation and Celebration on Sundays. City Church is part of Groundlevel, a national apostolic church grouping, and Networking Together, a regional leaders' network. Details can be found through links on the website.

Service Overview
Congregation is on Sundays at 10am at Ketts Park Community Centre, Harts Farm Road (off the London Road, roughly in line with Turner Close). There is also a Celebration Event every Sunday at 3.30pm at City Christian Centre, Nelson Street, Norwich, followed by refreshments. The Celebration is designed to gather people from the various local congregations and impart vision and inspiration in a larger setting. Children's ministry is provided.

Groups and activities
Since 1993, City Church has operated the charity CityCare, engaged in community projects. One of the main aspects of this work is taking out hot food and refreshment and feeding the homeless from an agreed assembly point in the City centre every Saturday lunch-time.There is also the Connects project, which provides interaction, fun and friendship to young people who help care for either a sibling or parent with disabilities.

QUAKERS (Society of Friends)
Since their foundation in the 1600s in England, Quakers' aim has been to make a practical witness to their religious convictions. Quakers are especially active in peace work, human rights and social reform. A free Enquirers Pack is available via the national website.

Meetings
Quakers meet in Wymondham on the 2nd and 4th Sunday in each month in the Resources Room in the Bridewell. All welcome.
